The idea for Whole Kids first came to us almost ten years ago when many of our family and friends kept telling us about how much junk there was in children’s snack foods, but also grumbled that there weren’t really any yummy, convenient and healthy alternatives available.

We didn’t want to give our nieces and nephews unhealthy junk food, and we certainly didn’t want our kids (when we decided to start a family) to grow up without having healthy snacks to enjoy.

We thought there must be a better and healthier way to make yummy snacks for kids without all the junk. And we also wanted to do things differently. We both worked in corporate roles with big companies and we were a bit fed up with the stress, politics and lack of time for our family and friends. We wanted to create a business that really cared about what it was doing and was also a fun and friendly place to work.

We both love organic food – not only is it chock-full of healthy justcougars.com goodness and free from pesticides, chemicals and nasty food additives, but it’s also better for our environment. When we started to think about what foods we should make, we looked around and discovered that no one in Australia was making a range of healthy organic snacks for kids to take to school.

So we made the jump, resigned our jobs and withdrew our life savings (we were saving for a house deposit – we still are!) and made our first batch of organic snacks.

That was a decade ago….

Now that we have our own little girl called Chloe (now two years old!), we’re even more driven and committed to create healthy food and a healthy environment for kids wherever we can.

That’s just the beginning of the Whole Kids journey. We have so many exciting ideas and plans to help improve the health and nutrition of kids everywhere, and we’d love you to join us.

We hope you and your family enjoy our yummy snacks. Please contact us if you have anything tell us, anything at all. We’d love to hear from you.

Thanks,Monica & James

You can read more about our story right here at Whole Kids.

There are three core values at the heart of everything we do at Whole Kids.

Wholesome

We believe in nourishing and nurturing children and our world in way that is respectful and responsible. We only make the highest quality, most nutritious, most natural and best tasting products available for kids.

Wholeness

We believe in the interconnectedness and interdependence of all things in the world, and that everything we do in some way impacts our relationship with each other and our environment. We strive to make a real and positive difference to children’s health, our environment and social equity. In areas where we may not be able to help, we will at least do no harm.

Wholehearted

We approach everything we do with a sense of adventure, enthusiasm, enjoyment and a commitment to doing things differently. We will be honest in our endeavours and true to ourselves.

So what does all that mean? Our values make us what we are, what we believe in and what we do.

Only the best

We’re very choosey about the quality of what we make, and we select only the best ingredients we can find. We believe in the difference organic and natural food can make to the health of our families and the health of our environment. That’s why we only make naturally good products that are naturally good for you.

Ethical sourcing

We want the ingredients we use to come from sustainable practices. We’ll only buy from certified organic growers and farmers, and wherever possible we’ll source from local suppliers to help support local communities and regional economies. Where we can we’ll also favour Fair Trade suppliers to support fairer and more sustainable trading conditions for marginalised small farmers in developing countries.

Protecting our world

All of us have a fundamental responsibility to protect our environment for future generations. Reducing waste and pollution, minimising carbon emissions, finding alternatives to non-renewable resources, supporting sustainable agriculture, and encouraging water & energy conservation are just some of the urgent issues facing our environment. We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to do the right thing whenever we can.

Supporting our communities

We believe that businesses can no longer ignore their responsibilities to the communities in which they operate and the impacts of their operations on the environment and society. Businesses need to contribute actively, positively and innovatively to improving the quality of life for the communities they are a part of – whether they’re local, national or international.

Have a laugh

Sure life can be pretty serious at times, but we also think life and food should be fun, enjoyable and a great way to share good times with family and friends. We try to make our workplace a fun and happy place for our team since we think it makes no sense to work somewhere that doesn’t bring a smile to your face.

We get so many emails and calls from mums who are fed up with their children’s school or kinder or sports club running the same old unhealthy chocolate fundraiser year after year. It’s not just chockies we hear complaints about, it’s also sweets, lollies, cookies and cakes.

Some mums told us they’d rather just donate money to their school’s fundraiser than get stuck with a big box of chockies in the pantry.

We couldn’t agree more.

We believe our fundraiser is a healthy, yummy way to raise the much-need funds you need for your school, canteen, kinder, child care centre, social club, sports club or whatever organisation you run.

And please don’t think you can’t generate the same profit and sales from a healthy fundraiser compared to an unhealthy fundraiser. Compare what you can make from our Whole Kids Healthy Fundraiser to other fundraisers, and you may be pleasantly surprised with the profit margin you can make with us.

That means you make more from every sales dollar with our fundraiser compared to many others (based on our profit assumptions). You work hard on your fundraising activities, so you should keep more of every dollar you make.

It’s also important to go with a trusted brand for your fundraiser. Whole Kids has been established since 2005 and our products are now widely available in stores throughout Australia. We’re a family owned business that has won many awards for our high quality products:

One Percent For Our Kids

As part of our commitment to doing our bit to give back to communities, Whole Kids recently launched a non-profit organisation called One Percent for Our Kids that supports and funds projects to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their environment.

For every Healthy Fundraiser fruit bar you buy, we’ll contribute 1% from that sale to One Percent. That might not sound much, but we believe it’s the start of something that can make a big difference.

In fact, one percent can make a huge difference.

Spending less than one percent of global GDP would help to achieve a cap of two degrees in global warming. Enough to avert dangerous climate change.

And to put every child in the world in school would cost less than one percent of what the world spends every year on weapons. That’s right, weapons.

So for every dollar you raise for your own fundraising project, the more we contribute to helping kids. And as more organisations join in the Healthy Fundraiser, the more impact One Percent can make.
